Genealogies and Family HistoryHere is where the real interest lies; after the basic facts of births marriages deaths have been collected and census records scoured the there are the deeper records of wills, testaments and land records etc. Indeed this is the aspect of the site I'll be concentrating
on – building up the background information. The early Aberdeen Duns, who were almost certainly
the ancestors of the Duns of Bristol, provide some
of the most interesting research tasks. Whereas the Border Duns simply seem to appear and
their origins have long fascinated me- though
they appear aeraly in the records of the Scottish
Parliament. The Fife family, amongst the earliest, spread abroad
mainly to Australia but really world wide. The Stirlingshire Duns spread to Canada and the United States, though my own branch barely moved 60 miles in 400 years! From looking at the stats for the site Genealogies is one of the most popular pages and, I’m sorry to say, the one that has been least updated.
Over time various people have sent me Dun genealogies: I apologise for not acknowledging the authors – their names have become detached from the files. The files below are all in PDF and by going straight to the list of names you can readily find if the tree is relevant to you – don’t go by the tree name it’s very general. What is missing are the sources and here I’m as much to blame – more so in that I should be setting an example. At the moment I’m re-modelling my tree and once that has been satisfactorily completed will serve as a template for the others. Please get in touch particularly if you are the author of one of the trees so I can credit you. I would be delighted if any can provide a link between the early Aberdeen Duns and present day descendents. |
