Gules, a
sword point upwards in pale Argent, hilted and pommelled Or, between
three fetterlocks of the Last, a canton voided of the Second.
Above the
Shield is placed an Helm befitting his degree, with a Mantling Gules
powdered of fetterlocks Or, doubled Or, and on a Wreath of the Liveries
is set for a Crest a dun Argent masoned Gules, window and port Sable,
issuing therefrom a bearded demi-man clad in mail Proper with surcoat
as the Shield blowing a bull's horn Sable, and in an Escrol over
the same this Motto " Defend and Shelter "
The canton voided is an unusual charge, as it indicates a "stranger in blood" - in this case adoption. However in 2010 I found my birth family “Stewart” and on the 11th April 2017 the Stewart chequy, azure and argent, was added to the canton –
Third page of the 94th Volume of the Public Register of All Arms and Bearings in Scotland - this also allowed me to record my Stewart ancestors.
